Algimycin PWF is a liquid, water-soluble copper formulation used as an algaecide and cyanobacteriocide. It is designed to control a broad range of algae and cyanobacteria in potable water reservoirs, ponds, lakes, and irrigation conveyance systems such as ditches, canals, and laterals. The active ingredients are chelates of copper gluconate (12.5%) and chelates of copper citrate (12.9%), containing a total of 5% copper. The product is effective in various water conditions, though its toxicity to non-target aquatic organisms increases in soft waters (alkalinity less than 50 mg/L) or waters with low pH (≤ 6.5) and low dissolved organic carbon. When using the product, technicians must ensure even distribution, especially when treating floating mats or scum. It is critical to avoid over-application; for drinking water, applied metallic copper must not exceed 1 ppm. Users should be aware that treatment can cause oxygen depletion in the water column due to decaying vegetation, so monitoring dissolved oxygen is recommended. Handling requires specific PPE to prevent skin and eye irritation.
